A classic side dish that combines bread, vegetables, and aromatic herbs, perfect for soaking up gravy and accompanying your favorite roasted meats.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of bread, cubed (stale or dried works best)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks of celery, chopped
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 2-3 cups of chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon of dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Chopped parsley, diced apples, or sausage

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Sauté the vegetables in a large skillet with melted butter for about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Mix the cubed bread with the sautéed vegetables, herbs, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
  4. Add the broth gradually, stirring until the mixture is moist.
  5. Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish and cover with foil.
  6. Bake covered for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Serve warm alongside your holiday meal.

Notes

Use stale bread for better texture. Do not overmix; maintain some texture.
