A delightful and spooky chocolate cake designed for Halloween, perfect for both kids and adults.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Candy eyes
  • Black fondant (optional, for extra detailing)
  • Additional white frosting for mummy bandages

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Beat the eggs, then add the milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing just until incorporated.
  5. Stir in the boiling water carefully; the batter will be thin.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks.
  8. Beat softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing with milk until desired consistency is reached.
  9. Place one layer on a serving plate, frost the top, then add the second layer and frost the top and sides.
  10. Create bandage strips with white frosting and decorate with candy eyes.

Notes

Make sure the cakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
