Bring the joy of fall festivals to your kitchen with these simple and customizable candy apples, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
  • Wooden sticks
  • Toppings (optional) such as chopped nuts, sprinkles, or crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the apples to remove any waxy coating. Insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple, pushing it about halfway through.
  2. Combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium heat.
  3. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring and let it boil. The mixture should reach the hard crack stage (around 300°F), which takes about 10 minutes.
  4. If using food coloring, carefully stir it into the candy mixture once it reaches the appropriate temperature.
  5. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool for about a minute. Dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, turning to coat evenly.
  6. Place the coated apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool and harden. Let them sit for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use a candy thermometer for best results. Ensure apples are dry to avoid issues with the candy coating. Experiment with different toppings for unique flavors.
