Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk
  • Black food coloring (for the spiderweb)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart. Flatten each ball slightly.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers remain soft.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks.
  9. In a separate bowl, combine the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Stir in black food coloring.
  10. Once the cookies are completely cool, decorate with icing in a spiderweb pattern using a piping bag and toothpick.

Notes

Ensure the butter is softened to room temperature. Adjust the food coloring to your desired intensity.
