Ingredients
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
Royal icing (or any icing of choice)
Food coloring (preferably Halloween colors like orange, black, and green)
Decorative sprinkles (e.g., bats, ghosts, or pumpkins)
Edible markers (for detailed designs)
Instructions
Prepare the dough: Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating until well combined.
Combine dry ingredients: Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually incorporate into wet ingredients to form a uniform dough.
Chill the dough: Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Roll and cut out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼-inch thickness; use cookie cutters for Halloween shapes.
Bake the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 10-12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden. Allow to cool on a wire rack.
Decorate cooled cookies with royal icing, food coloring, and sprinkles for spooky designs.
Notes
Ensure butter is softened for best results. Don’t skip chilling the dough to prevent spreading during baking.
