These tender dumplings are perfect for a quick meal and can be customized to fit your family’s tastes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded (or protein of your choice)
  • 1/2 cup vegetables (carrots, peas, etc.)
  • 1 cup chicken broth (for cooking)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or yogurt (optional, for extra tenderness)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, mix the water and vegetable oil together. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  2. Roll Out the Dough: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the dough until it’s about 1/8 inch thick. Use a round cutter or glass to cut the dough into circles.
  3. Fill the Dumplings: On each dough circle, place a spoonful of shredded chicken and some vegetables. Fold the circle in half and press the edges to seal tightly, ensuring no filling escapes.
  4. Cook in Broth: In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil. Once boiling, carefully drop the dumplings into the broth. Cook for 15-20 minutes or until they float to the top, which indicates they’re done.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Gently scoop the dumplings out of the broth and serve them warm.

Notes

Make sure to not overcrowd the pot when cooking the dumplings for even cooking. Adjust the dough consistency with flour or water as needed.
