Deliciously sweet bat-shaped cookies, perfect for Halloween gatherings and celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Black food coloring
  • Bat-shaped cookie cutters

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure even baking.
  2. Mix the flour, baking soda, and baking powder in a small bowl.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and white sugar until smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, and mix well.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until fully blended. The dough will be soft and slightly sticky.
  6. Shape rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place them on ungreased cookie sheets, flattening each ball with a sugared glass.
  7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly golden, then cool on wire racks.
  8. Prepare the frosting by mixing confectioners’ sugar, milk, and black food coloring until smooth.
  9. Cut the cookies into bat shapes and decorate with frosting.

Notes

Ensure your butter and egg are at room temperature for better mixing. Chill the dough if too soft, and rotate sheets halfway for even baking.
